Here is a Place

Here is a place where I can lay me down,
where the rivers of forgiveness run.
Here is the place where love and mercy meet,
and the broken can be made to live again.

Down the red is flowing,
it mingles with the sweat and tears and pain.
Down your blood is flowing,
‘til the work is done
and the sacrifice complete.

High where the wood and cruel nails meet,
is a mystery of death and birth.
You in my place, the place that I deserve,
carry all the fear and pain that keep me bound.

Stripped of all but love,
the heart above all other hearts is broken.
Angels watch and wait,
‘til the work is done

Joy the fire that fuels you,
Joy and love your strength.
Mine the heart you long for,
when the work is done
and the sacrifice complete.

Here no pretence or any other ploy,
can manipulate, or make a way.
Only the blood that sparkles as it flows,
can make a bridge across the deep divide.
